The planting begins...

We are adding three more outdoor control trees, to complete the experimental design of three trees for each treatment. The soil quality in the field is awful, so we dig 8'x8' holes, 14 inches deep in the center sloping to 18 inches on the edges. They get filled with good topsoil, covered with weed cloth, and finally 3 inches of mulch. A ton of work, but makes for happy trees!
